BIO

John Heimbuch is a Minneapolis-based writer, director and performer. He is the Co-Artistic Director of Walking Shadow Theatre Company and a member of the steampunk rock band Bad September.

John has directed several plays and short films, including Walking Shadow's productions of Drakul, The Transdimensional Couriers Union, 36 Views, and Seventy Scenes of Halloween.

His original full-length scripts include Drakul, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Transdimensional Couriers Union, S. Gunter Klaus and the Story Before, William Shakespeare's Land of the Dead, SQUAWK, 10-Speed Revolution, Or the White Whale, and The Lives of the Most Notorious Highwaymen.

His plays have been produced in New York, London, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Colorado and Alaska. In Minnesota, his works have been staged by Walking Shadow Theatre Company, Jon Ferguson Theatre, Hardcover Theater, and Jon Hassler Theater. He has been published by Metro Magazine and Samuel French.

John is an alumnus of Minnesota State University, Mankato (B.A. in Theatre, minor in Dance); the Perpich Center for Arts Education; and the Lincoln Center Directors Lab. He was a participant of the 2001 International Mask Conference and has studied modern dance, contact improvisation, film and stage directing, playwriting, screenwriting, theatrical improvisation, vocal performance, mask-making, puppetry, theatre history, performance theory, and game design.
