Heimbuch is a Twin Cities-based theatre artist, with experience in
acting, directing, writing, singing, modern dance, mask-making, game
design and performance theory. John is Co-Artistic Director of Walking Shadow Theatre Company, the Twin Cities Regional Rep for The Dramatists Guild of America, and frontman for the steampunk rock band Bad September. His full length plays include The Transdimensional Couriers Union, S. Gunter Klaus and the Story Before, William Shakespeare's Land of the Dead, SQUAWK, 10-Speed Revolution, Or the White Whale, The Lives of the Most Notorious Highwaymen, and the London After Midnight series (with Mark Steven Jensen and Shanan Custer). John's plays have been produced locally by Walking Shadow, Hardcover Theater, the Minnesota Fringe Festival, Jon Hassler Theater, Civic Stage, Jon Ferguson Theatre, and the Southern. His works have been produced nationally at The Midtown International Theatre Festival, Young Mirror Repertory, Plays & Players Theatre, and Cleveland Shakespeare, among others. John directed Walking Shadow's productions of Seventy Scenes of Halloween (2006), 36 Views (2008), and The Transdimensional Couriers Union (2010). He has directed readings and workshops for Walking Shadow, The Playwrights' Center, and Questionable Company Theatre. John received a Bachelor of Arts from the Minnesota State University, Mankato, with a major in Theatre (acting/directing) and a minor in Dance (modern). He graduated from the Perpich Center for Arts Education in 1996 with an emphasis in Theatre. He is also an Alumnus of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab 2007 and was a participant of the 2001 International Mask Conference. He has taken classes and workshops from Improbable Theatre, Jeffrey Jones, Sarah Hammond, Chris Aiken, Ben Krywosz, Young Jean Lee, Zenon Dance, and Jill Bernard.
